I hope this finds you well and off to a good start with your gardening adventures and projects this season! We're happy that you will be joining us for another year of supporting butterflies and moths within your own backyard.

What I enjoy most about this time of year is checking throughout our habitat to see what plants have come out of dormancy. Here are some of my thoughts as I poked around:

Who survived the winter? What plants is this? I don't recall what I planted here. Oh look, an empty space for a new plant! Squee! That plant survived!

April is Citizen Science month and here at BB we're all about citizen science pertaining to Leps. I highlighted some butterfly and moth related opportunities that will be coming up this year. We hope to see you at the Hillsborough Moth Crawl, at our Annual Moth Night, or Orange County NABA Butterfly Count.

Online Soft Opening
|
Exclusive to our newsletter subscribers! Our online shop will have a soft opening on Sunday, April 28 at 11:00 AM before our official opening on May 1st. This will allow us to make sure the website is operating correctly and fix any issues that may arise.
|

Changes to Order Deliveries
We're not fond of changes in policies, so it was with great and careful consideration that we decided to require a $100 minimum purchase to qualify for delivery of your order. The delivery fees of $5 and $10 based upon distance have not been changed.
|
|
The option to schedule your own delivery will be discontinued. We will be scheduling deliveries and will notify you when your order will be delivered.
|
|
Limited Quantity Plants
|
Plants that have limited quantities, such as "limit one per customer" will only be available through our online shop for pick-up or delivery.

Spring Volunteer Opportunities
|
|
|
Pot Seedlings & Sale Prep
Volunteers needed to help pot up spring seedlings and to help prep for the upcoming Spring Plant Sale Fundraiser.
No experience necessary -- we show you want to do. We do require you register as space is limited. First shift is 12 - 2 PM, the second shift is 2 - 4 PM.

Helpers Needed for Weekend Plant Sales
Helpers are needed on Saturdays or Sundays during May from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM to assist with our weekend plant sale fundraiser.
|
We especially need help on our opening weekend of May 4th & 5th!
Positions available include Pick-Up Order Assistant, Cashier, and Plant Maven of Any Knowledge.
|
We will be working outside in all weather. Canopy tents will be up on rainy days. Lunch is provided upon request.

Carolinas Butterfly Monitoring Program
|
Weekly monitoring of designated routes to count butterflies. No previous experience necessary. Jeff conducts workshops on how to count butterflies. >> Learn More

NABA Butterfly Counts are a single day activity that has a 6 hour duration. Depending upon the conductor of the count, participants are not required to attend the entire 6 hours. In the piedmont region there are approximately 9 active NABA counts to join. >> Learn More

The NC Moth Project is conducted by Backyard Butterflies. Participants may join annual and special moth night events or join an NC Under-reported County Mothing Project survey. >> Learn More
