About the Organization

We are the PTA of Holt Elementary School in North Durham. After several years of dwindling membership and inactivity, we are working to rebuild a PTA presence in our school, to support families and educators and to build community. This past year our very small group took on the task of reviving the garden in front of Holt Elementary School, which had been neglected for years. We were so excited to have 25 people attend our first ever garden work day in March, when we cleared debris and arranged an outdoor classroom area. We also started a small pollinator garden with plants that volunteers brought from home. If we receive a Plant Grant, we will expand & diversify our garden space, both to provide habitat for pollinators and to be used as a teaching space for science classes. This area is located between our school and a heavily trafficked sidewalk, so the garden is visible to (and enjoyed by) neighbors as well as the school community.
