About the Organization

Charlotte Water provides drinking water treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, and stormwater services for the City of Charlotte and surrounding communities in and around Mecklenburg County. At our Irwin Creek Water Resource Recovery Facility, we are beginning an effort to create a demonstration garden to serve as an educational space for tour groups that visit our facility. We plan study the benefits and impacts of our biosolids on soil health while highlighting native plants and pollinator-friendly gardening practices (we have bee hives on site as well). I personally completed the Northwest Piedmont Master Naturalist program in 2024 through Forsyth County Extension and have been developing a Naturalist’s tour of our facility and think a native plant installation would be a great addition to that effort.
